Missions
SIBC supports many different missions and regularly contributes time, human, and financial resources to ministries in the following countries. SIBC attendees (both members and guests) are welcome to express an interest in participating in, or finding out more about our missions projects. South Korea (Taebaek English Camp)
In the summer vacation period, together with churches from the Hawaii Pacific Baptist Convention and Shin-Taebaek Baptist Church, SIBC co-sponsors a summer Youth English Camp in Taebaek City. This program is designed to show the love of Jesus through an English program that allows students who excel to have an extended home stay in Hawaii with our sister church families there. We have seen both tremendous growth in English skills, as well as a number of the youth accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior. This is a mission area where SIBC’ers can get involved every summer. In addition, we also work with Shin-Taebaek Baptist Church to provide warm weather clothing for the elderly in Taebaek during the winter months.
SIBC members have provided English language tutoring and other support for the children at Youngnak Borin Orphanage orphanage in Seoul, near SIBC. This ministry stems from James 1:27 “to look after “orphans and widows in their distress.” Working with SIBC members from the American Embassy, we have also provided financial support for necessities for the children.
India
SIBC has yearly mission trips to Bangalore, India, where we work with the local senior pastor (Pastor JD Enosh) to reach out to the untouchables in the area. We also provide regular financial support for Pastor Enosh’s orphanage, and have partnered with Songtan Central Baptist Church this year to help improve the interior of the orphanage. Finally, we provide financial and physical support yearly as Pastor Enosh seeks to train his pastors throughout the local area.
China
Working in concert with “Go with God Global,” SIBC has made a number of trips to China to distribute bibles to churches in remote areas of China. This year, over 16,000 bibles were distributed in one trip. This is an unforgettable mission opportunity for those in SIBC who want to see what the Lord is doing in China!
Thailand (NightLight International)
SIBC sponsors a family that attended services with us and now work in Thailand with Nightlight International. This organization seeks to bring women out of the prostitution industry of Bangkok through sharing the Gospel and offering alternative employment in the form of jewelry making so as to support their families. Our support of the Jordan family also includes technical (computer hardware/software) support. Techies are occasionally needed for mission trips to Thailand.
The Philippines
We are currently planning a mission in the Philippines, and are looking to work with other Hawaii-Pacific Baptist Convention churches to establish an effective mission area in this country. This grows out of the history of our 3:00 PM service, which has a long history through Dr. Tereso Casiño (now at Gardner-Web University, USA). Opportunities will be offered as we seek to launch this new mission.
